Let’s Get Something Straight About St. Louis

St. Louis ain’t perfect. We’ve heard it all — “crabs in a bucket,” “divided,” “every man for himself.” But when that F3 tornado tore through our city, destroying everything in its path, I saw a different St. Louis.

One built on grit, heart, and community.
One that came together when it mattered most.

The news showed the winds. The damage. The chaos.
But what they didn’t show — what the headlines missed — was the healing, the helping, and the hope.

The Day the Sky Fell

It came fast. No time to prepare. No time to pack.
Just roaring winds, flashing skies, and the sound of everything you built being ripped away.

My community was hit hard.

  • Homes — gone.

  • Cars — flipped.

  • Dreams — shattered in a matter of minutes.

Blocks were reduced to bricks, dust, and broken memories.
Roofs peeled back like paper. Power lines tangled in the streets. Trees that once shaded family BBQs splintered across cracked sidewalks.

The wildest part? Tornadoes don’t usually hit the heart of the city. In St. Louis, we’re used to them skipping around the outer neighborhoods or the county. Before May 2025, we hadn’t seen one tear through the city like this since the 1950s.

But this one?
It came straight for us.

Growing Up on the Southside: St. Louis Weather Always Been Wild:

Dutchtown Neighborhood

I was raised in South City, right off Grand. Growing up, I remember sitting with my mom, watching the sky twist with high winds. It might not have been a full-blown tornado, but I swear we watched what looked like a cyclone dance its way down Grand, wild and unpredictable.

That’s St. Louis weather for you — unpredictable. We can wake up to summer and fall asleep in winter. One minute it’s sunny and 70, the next it’s hailing sideways and 40 degrees.
Four seasons in one day? That’s normal in the Lou.

And don’t forget the snowstorms.

We’ve had winters where the city was literally shut down under thick sheets of ice and snow.
I remember one storm in particular — roads frozen, cars stuck, everything at a standstill. But me and my cousin? We still had to get to work. On our way in, we were out there pushing people’s cars up hills, helping clear streets before we even clocked in.
That’s the STL way — show up, help out, no matter what.

In the Rubble, Something Powerful Rose:

The spirit of St. Louis — that gritty, unshakable, back-against-the-wall kind of spirit — came alive. It rose from the rubble and wrapped itself around the people like armor.

Because when everything physical was stripped away, all we had was each other.

We cried together.
We cleaned up together.
We stood on porches with no walls and held each other’s hands.

You could feel it in the air — not just devastation, but determination.

St. Louis Showed Up — No Questions Asked

I watched neighbors who barely spoke before, share food and flashlights. I saw strangers checking on elders, passing out water, clearing debris with their bare hands.

There were no cameras. No praise. Just people helping people.

  • Churches opened their doors to the displaced.

  • Local food spots gave out meals for free.

  • Youth stepped up — handing out supplies, clearing trash, comforting kids.

We didn’t ask who you voted for.
We didn’t care what side of the city you were from.
We only saw family — St. Louis family — hurting, but still standing.

Crabs in a Bucket? Nah.

People love to say STL is all about competition. That we pull each other down instead of lifting each other up.

But that tornado didn’t just knock down homes — it knocked down barriers.

I saw people carry each other’s pain. I saw love in action, not just in words.

This storm reminded us who we really are when the rest is stripped away.

We’re not just a city. We’re a community. We’re a family.
And like family — we might fight, but when it’s time to show up, we do it like nobody else.

Rebuilding More Than Just Homes:

Yeah, we lost a lot. Some things can’t be replaced.
But what we’re building now is bigger than bricks.

We’re rebuilding:

  • Trust

  • Bridges

  • A new story for St. Louis

This storm was a test.
And we passed.

Why I’m Proud to Be So Saint Louis:

I’ve always repped the Lou.
But after the storm, it hit different.

It’s easy to wear the city on your chest when things are good. But I saw people give their last to help someone else.

I saw:

  • Real love

  • Real pride

  • Real unity

So to anyone doubting STL?

Don’t.

When the sky falls — St. Louis rises.

This is what being So Saint Louis really means:
We hold each other down, even when we’re hurting.
We show up — not for the clout, but because it’s right.

Final Word: STL Strong, Always:

To everyone who lost something in the storm — I see you.
I stand with you.

And I promise: this brand, this platform, this movement — it’s for you.

We’ve been through too much to stop now.
So let’s keep rebuilding — not just walls, but each other.

We are STL strong. We are resilient. We are ONE.
